Atalanta's path

Named for Atalanta, the huntress who never slowed down — endurance wasn't her strategy, it was her weapon.

Expect sled supersets, kettlebell ballistics, med-ball and battle-rope power, real barbell strength, and a reactive jump primer — structured to burn hard and build power without the muscle loss that comes from steady-state alone. One flexible day per week for whatever cardio you enjoy.

The myth behind the name

The huntress no one could outrun

Left on a mountainside as an infant and raised in the wild, Atalanta grew into the fastest mortal in Greece — first to wound the Calydonian boar, an Argonaut among heroes, and unbeaten in a footrace until Hippomenes threw three golden apples off her path to break her stride.

Her path is the program's: earned stride by stride, session by session. The only thing that ever beat Atalanta was a distraction — the training here is built to keep you from picking up the apples.

The approach

How the program works

Complete each phase for a total of 3 weeks before moving to the next. The priming block is performed before every session and is the same in all three phases — it is a standard, not a progression. Train three workouts per week, with an optional fourth Free Day.

Each week runs three distinct sessions: a Conditioning & Power day of sled work, loaded carries, and ballistic throws; a Strength & Ballistics day that opens with a reactive jump primer and moves through kettlebell and dumbbell giant sets; and a Heavy Strength + Power day built on barbell squats, hinges, presses, and pulls. The bike-sprint finisher is a benchmark you retest and beat every phase.

Train Workouts #1-3 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (shift days to fit your week). The Free Day (Workout #4) is optional — choose a favorite low-impact activity, a mobility flow class, the Physique or Engine circuit, or an optional catalyst-session add-on. Priming is performed before every workout.
The structure

What's inside

Three phases over nine weeks, three weeks each. The work sharpens as you progress — the sled goes from drives to sprints, the kettlebell ballistics from swings to snatches, and the reactive primer from simple hops to true bounding.

PHASE I
Lay the Base
Lay the base: sled and carry conditioning, kettlebell ballistics, your first barbell strength, and low-amplitude reactive work.
Weeks 1-3
PHASE II
Raise the Density
Raise the density: heavier ballistics, lateral sled work, and broad-jump power on the strength days.
Weeks 4-6
PHASE III
Peak the Power
Peak the power: sprint sleds, single-arm ballistics, bounding, and the heaviest barbell work of the program.
Weeks 7-9

Every program ships as a print-ready PDF with full exercise tables and a week-by-week calendar.

Is this your path?

Who it's for

Nearly every Train Areté program reserves an optional catalyst-session slot in its weekly calendar — specialization add-ons from the add-on library are built to drop straight into it. If your program has no catalyst day, the specialization add-ons carry a Micro-Catalyst page that doses the same work in minutes.
